Whether you've got an idea for your new kitchen or you haven't got a clue where to start, the Home Improvement Centre is on hand to help. And with discounts of up to 50% available on certain ranges this spring, now could be the time to revamp your kitchen. (April 2016)
Led by Home Improvement Centre (HIC) Director Alex MacDonald, who has over thirty years experience in kitchen design and fitting, the services offered cover every aspect of a new kitchen, and are tailored by each customers wants and desires. “For us it really is all about the service we can offer, how we can help the customer,” said Alex. “We don't go in for the hard sale at all.”
Alex is a man who knows his stuff when it comes to kitchens, having served time as a joiner with a kitchen manufacturer in Back before moving to the mainland where he worked for leading kitchen retails like Shreiber and Magnet kitchens. He returned home to Lewis and has been assisting islanders make their homes their own for the past 14 years with HIC. “I'm pleased to see how the Home Improvement Centre has grown over the years,” he said. “I'm involved with everything in the shop, but the kitchen department is really my baby.”
Dictated by customer needs, Alex first takes time to talk through what you're looking for and then, once selections are made, draws up a plan and prices the new kitchen. He is also available to measure up your new kitchen, with appointments to see customers in their own homes when it suits, during the day or in the evening. And there is plenty to go through with a large range of kitchen units, worktops, appliances, fixtures and fittings available at the Home Improvement Centre.
Kitchen units are split into three broad styles – Shaker, Traditional and Modern – with a range of coloured, gloss and solid wood units in every shape and size, from basic cupboards to pull-out spaces, corner units and more. All are complemented by the choice of laminate, solid wood, granite or quartz worktops; and paint, tiles and splash-backs – both coloured and glass – offer a variety of finishes.
And as HIC deals with most of the major appliance retails, you can kit out your new kitchen with products from Bosch, Hotpoint, Zanussi, Rangemaster and Neff. And not to mention stock your cupboards with pots, pans, cutlery and glassware – all available at HIC.
“It's amazing how things have changed over the years, there are definite trends in kitchens,” Alex said. “Right now the painted ranges are quite popular and we have twelve different pastel colours to choose from. “We've also noticed splash-backs have taken over from tiles in popularity the last couple of years, but that's how things work – they come into fashion and out again as trends change.”
He added: “The customer is always involved in every step of the new kitchen, and the good thing in that is we can mix and match between the ranges to get what they're looking for.” Having recently returned from a kitchen trade-show in Birmingham, Alex and HIC have introduced new stands and example worktops to their range. And during April/May, keep an eye out for a number of discounts – up to 50% – on certain ranges in store.
When you buy a kitchen with HIC you can also open an account in store, allowing for itemised bills that all help when claiming back VAT. And having a trusted hand to help buy your kitchen, Alex and HIC don't leave you there as full fitting is also offered with kitchen installation, joinery, plumbing, electrics and tiling undertaken through HIC's trusted local tradesmen.
